The West Virginia University Board of Trustees convened on Friday (Dec. 16) and kicked off a weekend at the Morgantown campus.

“During our meetings throughout the year, we discuss all the details of university operations — budgets, facilities, academic programs, personnel policies, student recruitment,” said President Gordon Gay. But every commencement ceremony reminds us why we are here and how every decision we make leads to a better life for our graduates and a better future for West Virginia.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Marianne Reed told board members that students seem “very excited” to return to the full campus experience this fall.
As the spring semester approaches, Reed noted that WVU Tech will have a new president in Southwest Virginia and WVU alumnus T. Ramon Stuart. The announcement came earlier this month as Carolyn Long prepares to retire at the end of December.
“Dr. Stewart is highly personable and committed to improving student outcomes as well as attracting new students to higher education,” Reid said.

Across the WVU system, academic transformation efforts have recently shifted to graduate programs, which are expected to focus more on graduate student success by 2023, Reid said.
The board also approved the WVU Research Corporation’s annual financial statements and audit report, and confirmed honorary degree recipients to be announced at a later date.

Byu Adds Five Top Recruits To 2023 Signing Class
This year will be another tough year for Mountaineers basketball. There is a lot of turnover on last year’s roster, with only five players returning (Kobe Johnson, Kadrian Johnson, Seth Wilson, Jamel King and James Okonkwo). Of the five, Kadrian Johnson was the only one who averaged more than 10 minutes per game last season.
The additions of Eric Stevenson and Joe Toussaint help bolster the backcourt, but there are still issues for them to iron out and it may take some time for that to happen. True freshman Javah Harris will be the cornerstone of the program’s future, but he is very young.
Combine all the youth and inexperience of the game with what is considered the most challenging schedule in WVU basketball history and you have a team that will finish at or near the bottom of the Big 12 standings. The future is bright in Morgantown, even if it doesn’t look like it this season.
Wvu Falls To Basement Of The Big 12, Time Running Short To Avoid A Losing Season
I might be a little optimistic at 13-18, but I think this group will stick together in a tough Big 12 conference schedule and fight to get into the postseason.
The group has talent and seems to have bought into Hogg’s philosophy, but chemistry takes time on the court.
My biggest concern going into the season is the front end. St. Louis / Moberly Area C.C. Transfer Jimmy Bell lost about 70 pounds in the offseason, and while that will help him run the field, playing in the Big 12 without the extra weight will be a big learning curve, and transfer Terry Mitchell The Texans have stepped up this offseason. He averaged 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Vs West Virginia Mountaineers
The guards should be highlighted by Eric Stevenson and the only returning starter from last year, Kadrian Johnson. They feel like Daxter Miles and Javon Carter. They are competitive and pride themselves on defense.
Then Emmitt Matthews Jr. He should be the “glue guy” that holds this team together while Stevenson will be the fire in the belly that this group needs.
The story is about Huggins and the climbers. Huggins has never had long consecutive seasons. While there have been no major breakthroughs over the past two long seasons under Huggins, there hasn’t been a transfer portal full of talented players.

It will be a battle all season, there will be frustrating moments, but there should be some fun nights as well. Give the Mountaineers 18 regular season wins, a pair of Big 12 Tournament wins and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
