Updates From Fsu, Ucf, Uf, Usf, And Other Florida Public Universities
Tell us about yourself and we can help you take the first step toward joining Gator Nation over the past five years, the U.S. News and World Report ranked Florida’s higher education system #1. The Florida State University System (SUS) consists of 12 member institutions: UF, FSU, USF, UCF, FAU, FGCU, FIU, FAMU, UNF, Florida Poly, New College of Florida, and UWF. Last Wednesday, international college counselors attended an invitation-only virtual Florida SUS admissions workshop and heard from officials from all 12 Florida public institutions.

Last year, UCF received 49,000 applications and accepted 7,131 students. In the Class of 2025, UCF welcomed one of the school’s most academically gifted groups, including 107 National Merit Scholars and 30 National Hispanic Scholars. With students coming from all 50 states, approximately 48% of institutions identify as minorities. New majors this year include a bachelor’s degree in data science and a degree in career and technical education. The school’s Top 10 Night Program continues to offer guaranteed admission to the top 10% of Florida’s graduating class. UCF has rolling admissions and will begin processing applications this month.
Florida, Sec Announce 2023 Football Schedule
UF ranks sixth among public universities in the US. News and World Report. The school offers more than 120 undergraduate majors. Last year, UF received 53,000 applications and accepted 15,000 students for the Summer B or Fall session. Six hundred students have been accepted through UF’s Innovation Academy, a spring/summer program that includes innovation foundations in 25 majors. Another 3,600 students were accepted through UF’s PaCE program, a blended program in which students begin classes online and then graduate on campus. The most important factor in admissions is four years of academic performance, including the rigor and courses students took in high school. Under a new initiative, UF students from any major can now earn a certificate in AI fundamentals and applications. UF recently opened the Lavender Living Learning Community, a gender-sensitive housing option for LGBTQ+ students, at the Springs complex. This year, UF added an essay to their application asking students about meaningful activities. Admissions representatives noted that they like a good story that provides insight into the student and how he or she will contribute to the university. Students applying to the Honors Program are required to write two additional essays. Admissions representatives reiterated that theses should be specific to the UF Honors program and that students should not deviate from the subject. Other Notes: UF does not consider legacy in its admissions, does not consider majors, and does not consider AP scores in the admissions process.

FAMU is one of the largest historically black colleges in the United States, offering a high-quality education at an affordable cost. To be considered for admission, students must report their high school courses and grades using the Student Self-Reported Academic Record (SSAR), submit two letters of recommendation, and submit an essay of at least 500 words on a topic of their choice. According to the admissions representative, overcoming an obstacle or adversity is a good essay topic. Students must apply by November 1, the priority deadline for all merits to be considered. The school offers 50+ degrees in various academic programs including pharmacy, nursing, journalism, health sciences, engineering, architecture and business.

FAU Foundation Anniversary. The school has two campuses: Boca Raton (main campus) and Jupiter (Wilkes Honors College). FAU prides itself on the diversity of its student body. The school offers an Engineering Bridge Program, an Academic Success Program, and a U.S. The only university-affiliated independent honors college at FAU is offering $20 million, the largest gift in school history. USD from beneficiaries Kurt and Marilyn Wallach. The gift will fund the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Institute for Holocaust and Jewish Studies. Last year, FAU received 6,000 applications to its prestigious medical school and only 66 were accepted. New this year is a 150-bed residence hall on the school’s Jupiter campus. The school has rolling admissions, but students must apply by January 14 for merit consideration. Applicants should use the SSAR to report their high school courses and grades.
This fall, FGCU welcomed the largest freshman class in its history. Founded in 1991, FGCU is home to more than 15,000 students, 4,700 of whom live on campus. The campus is 800 acres, of which 400 is reclaimed or preserved land. This year, the school remodeled Student Services Square and opened three new projects: the Recreation and Wellness Center, the Community Counseling Center, and Lucas Hall, which houses the School of Entrepreneurship. A new 116,000 sq.m. The Water School building helps students explore water-related issues, including climate change, national resources and ecosystem health. FGCU’s golf management program is one of 18 PGA-accredited programs in the nation and the only one in Florida. They also have a strong internship program and are ranked #2 in the state for student placements. New majors include construction management in the College of Engineering, supply chain management and analytics in the College of Business, computer science and digital media and design in the College of Arts and Sciences. FGCU housing consists of three resort-style options.
In Florida, public universities are ranked by key metrics including retention rate, four-year graduation rate and cost of attendance. Located in Miami, FIU received the highest score and was named the #1 public school in Florida. FIU is proud to host the world’s only underwater research facility, the Aquatic Reef Base, where students can study global environmental threats, marine ecosystems and more. Bacardi recently donated $5 million to the school to develop a beverage management program. FIU has a very diverse student body, with students coming from 381 high schools and 66 countries, with 86% of students identifying as Black, African American, or Hispanic. The school offers the highest number of undergraduate and graduate degrees to Spanish students. A new 750-bed dormitory and a new building for the Green School of International and Public Affairs will open in 2022. FIU Offers Top 10% Opportunities: Students who graduate from a Florida high school have a path to admission in the top 10% of their class. A student must take a standardized test, but is accepted into a course regardless of scores. Students are encouraged to register for free on Raise.Me to receive a micro grant.

Florida Poly is the newest school to join Florida SUS and focuses exclusively on STEM education. “Florida Poly is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 40 non-PhD civil engineering programs and the #2 affordable school in the country for a quality, affordable mechanical engineering education. Florida Poly welcomed its largest freshman class this fall, now with a total enrollment of 1,550. A new major this year is Cybersecurity Engineering, and Florida Poly partnered with the US Navy to prepare students to enter the Navy’s prestigious Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC). The school added new club sports, including men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer and archery. Florida Poly Robotics Team VEX, continues to grow and improve at the highest levels of combat competition. The new 90,000 sq. ft. Center for Applied Research, scheduled to open in the spring, will include new teaching laboratories, design spaces, conference halls,
