Teacher Travel Opportunities Summer 2023

One of my favorite parts of being a teacher is the schedule. With two months off in the summer and a few weeks off during the school year, the travel possibilities are endless. Over the years, I have taken various trips which were not only fun and relaxing, but also provided me with a wealth of knowledge and improved my teaching practice. I’ve studied flamenco guitar in Spain, practiced baroque flute in Nova Scotia, and attended music education conferences across the United States. However, travel can be expensive, especially if you’re on a teacher’s budget.

Fortunately, there are various government organizations, private companies, and non-profit international organizations that sponsor travel grants specifically for teachers. These bursaries are ideal for teachers who want to broaden their horizons and improve their teaching practice overseas. The requirements and details of these programs vary, but in general they are highly competitive and involve some form of coursework or teaching abroad.
