Research shows that families commit to reading for at least 15-20 minutes a day to help prevent “summer slump,” in which reading skills are lost and children are less prepared to return to school in the fall. Children who have not completed Grade 2 must be accompanied by a responsible adult whenever entering the library.

The Somers Library

Summer programming is back live with family events, classes, programs, weekly activities including sleepovers & build projects while supplies last. Registration is required for some classes. An activity fee applies to some artistic activities and is paid directly to the artist. The library reserves the right to cancel any event, class, program or activity due to reduced enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances.

Please note: masks are optional and social distancing may not be possible in events, classes and community programmes. Customers or guests showing signs or symptoms of possible illness are kindly asked not to attend the programme, event or class until such signs or symptoms have resolved.

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (AC) runs the Texas Summer Program in partnership with the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) – a consortium of 50 states that work together to provide high-quality reading materials in libraries at the lowest possible cost.

AC has gained online access to CSLP programming manuals for every library location in Texas. This manual contains all the programming resources, charts, and book charts for next summer. Accessing these resources online provides a consistent and reliable experience.

Access codes are case sensitive. Please share this information internally with someone on your staff working on the summer program, but do not post it on a publicly accessible site.
