The Janelia Undergraduate Fellows Program is a 10-week summer program aimed at independent and committed students who are well prepared and have significant research experience. Janelia’s undergraduate scholars are dedicated future scientists, engineers and mathematicians.

The Shoals Diversity Scholarship, established in 2020 by Jay and Suzanne McFarland, seeks to increase the diversity of undergraduate students enrolled at Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML). SML is a summer institute and field station jointly operated by Cornell and the University of New Hampshire on Appledore Island, Maine, offering summer courses and internships to students. To this end, SML invites underrepresented students to apply for financial support for SML academic courses. Diversity includes, but is not limited to, race, age, ethnicity, familial or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status , and veteran status. . The Shoals Diversity Scholarship ranges from $1,000 to full tuition plus room and board, depending on the number of applicants and available funding. The research assistantship is funded by the Office of the President and administered by the Office of Undergraduate Studies under the leadership of a faculty member who serves as a research mentor for the proposed research project.
