SAN DIEGO, CA (October 12, 2022) – Miramar College has been awarded $2.5 million by California to improve resources for its active duty and veteran students and their dependents. Led by Assemblyman Brian Maienschein, the funding is part of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s 2022-2023 state budget. These funds will provide better services and infrastructure for the College’s military community.

Miramar College will use the majority of the funds to renovate and complete its long-planned Veterans Resource Center located on the ground floor of Building I. The newly constructed facility will expand from its current 1,000 square feet to 3,000 square feet. . New furniture in the expanded VRC; It will be equipped with private classrooms and student lounges. The school will also build a computer room and staff.
Infrastructure improvements include: LCD screens; projectors; Laptop Borrowers and Internet Upgrades. A Hy-flex technology room will be built. In addition, Miramar College will upgrade its satellite teaching facilities at Marine Corp Miramar Air Station (MCAS).

Miramar College is one of the fastest growing community colleges in the country, according to a recently released annual survey.

A Community College Week survey released Wednesday lists Miramar as the 17th fastest-growing community college in the nation among campuses with at least 10,000 students.
In fall 2013, Miramar’s enrollment was 11,891 students, up 4.7 percent from the previous fall.
School President Patricia Hsieh said the college is the Southern California Biotechnology Center; He said programs like the Center for Advanced Energy and Transportation and the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Center have become a magnet for students.

The school offers certificates, offers nearly 150 associate degrees and complete transfer programs. Miramar offers students everything they need; We partner with local industry and governments to prepare them for good-paying jobs.

National Education Equity Lab Now In Broward County
San Diego City College; San Diego Mesa College and San Diego Miramar College were recognized among the top 100 colleges in the nation for Hispanic/Latino student enrollment, as ranked by Hispanic Outlook Education Magazine.
Among two-year colleges in the United States, San Diego City College ranks 35th and Miramar College ranks 68th. Mesa College ranks 45th for all four years.
