You can rent a red wagon for $5 a day to help you carry stylish jewelry, rustic housewares, garden ornaments and tons more from the show’s 200+ exhibiting vendors. Expect smaller crafters to return, along with favorites like Ekster Antiques and Rust & Feathers, as well as the Olde Tyme Marketplace, where owner Beth Swanson Lewis sells old-fashioned apothecary pots and ceramic pots. If you’re looking for a larger piece like a freestanding tub, stained glass window or refurbished wardrobe, be sure to bring a large truck or van. Or you can book one of the event’s on-site movers to schedule home delivery for an additional fee.

Adults will appreciate the large beer and wine garden. Local brewery Vanish, proud to use local ingredients, is bringing four beers to market, including the “Lucketts Store Light” pilsner; “Lucketts Calling”, a Citra Wheat IPA; A Belgian White Ghost; and its Amber Waves beer.

I laughed, imagining him saying the same thing every day of the week about the house he and his business partner Amy Whyte have renovated 140 times so far and sell everything within their walls at weekend events 10 times a year.
I visit the home of the “old-fashioned” look that Eblen and Whyte have been refining for 22 years out of the sleepy old one-stop town of Lucketts. Its flagship stores at the corner of US Route 15 and Lucketts Road have transformed an abandoned 1879 mansion that was once the town’s post office and general store into a clearinghouse for Instagram-worthy design vendors. Rescue doors and windows lean against the lemon-friendly colored exterior and lead to a back porch lined with potted plants, rusted signage and wrought-iron benches, all beckoning passers-by to peek inside.
If they go that far. During regular flea markets and special events, the pebbled area behind the house can be so filled with treasures that it’s easy to fill a truck bed (or two) without stepping inside the old buildings. The Design House is hidden behind open-air pavilions at the far end, but visitors can follow the long lines on weekends when it is open.
The Annual Lucketts Spring Market Is Back This October
If the country seems calm on a weekday morning, wait until the annual Spring Market sale. After 10,000 exhibitors filled the hamlet of Lucketts (population 3,000), it moved to the fairgrounds in nearby Clarke County. The heavy rain this May didn’t keep the crowd of Hunters dressed in rain boots away either. “Everyone’s attitude was level ten,” says Eblen (58), who that day drove a golf cart through the mud to cheer up customers commuting between the tents.
One more day until Design House opens for the fall weekend, and Eblen snuggles comfortably into a gray gunny chair that fans are already asking for a photo of her online. Industrial pipe shelves on one wall display botanical prints and orange glass bottles and somehow intertwine with a series of faux fur ombre cushions scattered across the seating. But for paper price tags, the room feels downright homely – and that’s the point. “We show people they can buy things they love and then put it all together,” says Whyte (49), who specializes in “something completely unrelated” and learning by design.
The two met when Whyte became a regular at My Wit’s End, a small shop Eblen ran down the road in Lucketts. What began as retail therapy from a 9-to-5 office job at a law firm in Washington, D.C., became a budding business relationship when Whyte designed a small corner of the store. “I’ll never forget that morning,” says Eblen, watching Whyte organize his space. It was 100 times better than anything we’ve ever done. We have been friends ever since.

Eblen talks fast and laughs often, and Whyte, who prefers to be alone by decorating, says it affects him, too. In fact, after working together for almost a quarter of a century, they finish each other’s words too much to finish each other’s sentences.
After working around the clock for weeks during one of the busiest times of the year, they hated shopping for Christmas decorations in January. But now they chirp together and say “we like it”. “It’s so popular and everyone loves it so much that we’re so high on it,” Eblen begins, and then Whyte concludes, “And what sells well is really fresh in our minds, so it’s easy to buy.”
Eblen’s design career began in California as an assistant to Harry Siegel, a Los Angeles designer who dared to reupholster antiques with avant-garde fabrics and sold them to stars like Madonna. When Eblen moved to Virginia with her husband, she was surprised to find 1950s dining rooms auctioned off for $1 and began selling them in barns on their Lovettsville estate.
The Old Lucketts Store Holiday Open House Returns Next Month
Since HGTV was just starting out, it took Whyte to his first auction. Back then, it was easy to fill a truck with $10 cutlery and $1 trinkets. Now there is more competition and higher prices in these markets, but connections with sellers across the country keep their inventory in a state of constant turnover.
The constant research, buying and selling that defines this business seems tiresome. However, it is refreshing for the two of them. “It’s kind of addicting,” says Eblen, whose round tortoiseshell glasses and blond bob give it an appropriately artistic flair. “It’s all about what drives us, what drives the motivation at that time.”
When Eblen, then pregnant with her third child, missed looking at the abandoned building that would become Old Luckett’s Store, it was Whyte who helped push her out the window. “We both can see the good bones and potential,” said Whyte, who gave birth to her son two years after the store opened, and raised him with Eblen’s.

The highly anticipated event will take place October 15-17 at the Clarke County Fairgrounds and will feature more than 200 vendors from across the country selling vintage items, chic decor, garden accessories and tools, textiles and more. And of course there will be food trucks, a beer garden and pumpkins. After all, it is a Spring Market in October.
Casey McGrath, who has worked at The Old Lucketts Store and design house for more than six years, says attendees can expect new vendors at this year’s event, along with vendors they’ve come to know and love over the years.

“Our Spring Market has carved out a little niche for itself, so our customers and suppliers are extremely loyal,” says McGrath. “We’re also getting new vendors because other shows have been canceled [for the fall].”
If you’re new to Lucketts Spring Market, consider it the place for all things “old okay” that’s a mix of old and new and a little unique, quirky and unusual.
“There really is something for everyone,” says McGrath, adding that the vendors were chosen to provide an “aesthetically pleasing” atmosphere. So, you won’t find rows of jewelers or millers. Led by owner Suzanne Eblen and creative director Amy Whyte, you can count on The Old Lucketts Store to choose from a wide variety of the best vendors they can find.
Holiday Markets Around The Dc Area To Find The Perfect Gift
In past years, Lucketts Spring Market has attracted more than 10,000 visitors over three days, and McGrath is expecting a big crowd again this year. Surely there is a pent-up demand for the ridiculously good finds you’ll find right there.
VIP tickets will go on sale in July and cost $40, giving attendees access to all three days of the event, including early Friday morning entry.
