Iupui Fall 2023 Calendar – The boards of trustees of Indiana and Purdue universities voted on Friday to convert Indiana University Purdue-Indianapolis into two separate schools, ending its merger that began 52 years ago.
Both schools will be responsible for running their academic programs on the current IUPUI campus. Purdue President Mitch Daniels, a former Republican governor of Indiana, told I-Team 8 that the name change will bring clarity to the downtown campus. “This is very interesting because if there is a place that struggled with its products, say IUPUI, it is very difficult to explain to people. together.”

“IUPUI’s results will lead to transformative change throughout Indiana and beyond,” Governor Eric Holcomb said in a statement. “As Purdue University and Indiana – two of the most competitive universities in the world – continue to focus on their strengths, they will now create a place for research and training in today’s economy.”
Indiana University President Pamela Whitten said this is not just a name change, “and now we have IU Indianapolis so this will be our urban university but we think that, as a large national university, our work is to serve the country and the people. downtown Indianapolis, so we’re going to build IU Indianapolis just to stay.”
The schools expect the transition from IUPUI to be completed in time for the fall semester of 2024, when the new academic units will take effect.

Currently, IU owns and operates the IUPUI campus, but other programs offer Purdue degrees. Under the Friday bag, the programs will be divided as follows:
IU will take over what is now the School of Science at IUPUI, except for the Department of Computer Science, which will become part of Purdue.
IU will take over some of the administrative duties of the two academic institutions and oversee the college’s athletics program.

Purdue will assume responsibility for engineering, computer science, and technology as a comprehensive extension of its West Lafayette campus.
Purdue also intends to open a branch of the applied research center at or near the current IUPUI.
