Iu Fall Break 2023 – BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Auditorium announced its 2022-2023 season schedule featuring six Broadway hits, award-winning musicians, family favorites, world-famous dances, and more.
The 2022-2023 season is packed with Broadway favorites, including contemporary hits The Book of Mormon and Jagged Little Pill, alongside all-time classics Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Chicago and My Fair Lady.

The IU Auditorium will also feature a variety of other must-see performances for audiences to enjoy, including the Grammy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir and Emmanuel Ax, hip hop and classically trained string duo Black Violin, a holiday concert featuring Straight No Chaser and Chimes of Christmas, night which is full of classic jazz hits like Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents: Songs We Love, the latest full-length performances from Ballet Hispánico, and more.

The three-time Grammy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir will bring joy and inspiration to Bloomington this fall with a concert HOPE: It’s A Long Time Coming, commemorating South Africa’s freedom movement and the civil rights movement in the United States.
This memorable evening began with a rousing program of South African anthems of freedom that inspired their Rainbow Nation. It would then move to the United States with a beautiful and heartfelt rendition of the civil rights movement’s music featuring works by legendary artists including Billie Holiday, James Brown, Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield and the one and only Aretha Franklin.

Featuring classics such as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” and “On the Street Where You Live,” My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a a young florist from Cockney, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor determined to turn her into his ‘proper woman’. But who has really been changed?
This year, James will be providing the soundtrack to IU Auditorium’s 4,543 pipe organ behind a live reenactment of the original 1940 radio play Inner Sanctum featuring Bach’s Fugue in C Minor. Students from IU’s Department of Theater, Drama, and Contemporary Dance will perform at the IU Auditorium to perform a thrilling radio play. This will be the first time a live actor has been part of the Dennis James Hosts Halloween in over 50 years performing at the Auditorium.
James would still be presenting the traditional silent film with live accompaniment in his second half appearance with the 1927 thriller The Unknown. This special family-friendly Halloween tradition is sure to be fun!

The holiday tradition continues with the happiest family-friendly event of the season, the Christmas Bells. The Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers returned to the IU Auditorium stage for their annual concert, featuring a mix of hit Christmas carols, contemporary hits, and classic choral arrangements. The show will also include special guests from various Jacobs School of Music ensembles.
The Singing Hoosiers, directed by Dr. Chris Albanese, is a Bloomington favorite with more than 70 years of tradition in contemporary vocal performance. They have entertained audiences in the United States and in more than 25 countries across Asia, Australia, Europe and the Caribbean. The ensemble has collaborated with Duke Ellington, Bob Hope, Mel Tormé, Sandi Patty, Sylvia McNair, Indianapolis Symphony and Cincinnati Pops under the direction of Erich Kunzel.

Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) performs Songs We Love live in Bloomington in February. Songs We Love is the 2016 season opener for the Jazz at Lincoln Center. The musical night is a journey through the first 50 years of jazz under the musical direction of Riley Mulherkar with three vocalists and an all-star band made up of up-and-coming New York stars.
Combining their various talents, the group sang across four decades of music, beginning with early 1920s blues and jazz and ending in the early 1950s. Iconic singers to emerge from the show included Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland.
