Foothill Fall 2023 – Why does it become harder to fall asleep or stay asleep as we age?
Perhaps we want our children to be calm and sleepy. Some may use the term to scold chatty children who refuse to go to bed. Others do introspection to quiet their minds before falling asleep. For our speaker, a somnologist, this phrase means something else. It talks about the act of physically closing your mouth and breathing through your nose to achieve better sleep.

Life begins with breath. The method of doing this inhalation and subsequent exhalation through the nose or mouth balances whether there is obstruction behind each gain. Most sleep and lifestyle disorders are secondary to a broader breathing problem that begins in childhood.
Fall Is The Planting Season, But ….
Dr. Anil Rama, MD, is the founder of Sleep and Brain and serves as an assistant clinical professor at the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine. He is the recipient of the 2021 Stanford Distinguished Service Award, given annually to one clinical faculty member. He is the former medical director of the Kaiser Permanente Tertiary Sleep Medicine Laboratory.
