B96 Summer Bash 2023 – Taylor Swift was thrilled to get tickets to Jingle Bash this year. Swift has never done a radio concert like this in Chicago, and she’s only doing three shows this holiday season, so I knew I had to jump at the chance.
I didn’t realize how excited I was for this line until I got to the Allstate Arena last night. I’ve only been to the 103.5 Kiss FM Jingle Ball radio concert in 2014. Here is the line.
B96 Summer Bash 2023
I have to say that I prefer the B96’s format and line-up: I prefer singers with long vocals. The concert I went to in 2014 had twice as many participants, most of whom only sang 2-3 songs. The B96 was different.

2017 Unstoppable Artist Halnighi opened the show at 7:05 p.m. I’m glad he decided to open his set with one of his favorites, American Teen. I’ve been following Khalid’s career since he was just starting out, performing to venues with less than 100 people. Khalid was so energetic that he danced on stage with backup dancers dressed in his own personal Chicago Cubs jersey. The crowd didn’t seem to know his catalog until he sang tracks like “Location” and “Shut Up,” co-produced with DJ Marshmello.
Khaled closes his six-song album (longer than any other artist) with his current single, “Young Dumb and Broke.” It’s safe to say he’s still young, but he’s not dumb or broke.
Khalid recently announced a tour in Chicago with an unspecified date early next year. All signs point to Lollapalooza 2018.

The next contestant was Sabrina Carpenter – I was surprised and confused as to why she was leading Khalid, but I think more people know Khalid and maybe want to see it sooner. Anyway, I didn’t see him play, just drinking beer, going to the bathroom, etc. I got up from my seat and came across a song called “Why” that’s doing really well on Spotify. The only thing I know about her is that she’s 18 years old, she’s on a girl-meets-meets-meets-meets-meets-meets-meets-meets-meets-world series, and she has a ton of followers on Instagram (13.5 million – that’s Khalid, Logic, Fifth Harmony, Backstreet Boys – fun).
Fifth Harmony After Sabrina Carpenter is a girl group that has had a lot of drama this year after Camila Cabello left the group almost a year ago. Fifth Harmony released their third full-length album in August of this year. The set kicked off with the band’s hit Precious, before taking the stage in matching loungewear and high-stakes dance moves.
Energetic from the start, it was lost on me when my girls went on four songs in a row (yeah) that I wasn’t familiar with. Haven’t heard his new album so can’t complain. To be fair, the 5H girls seem (quite) excited and confident about their performance as a new quartet, but it just didn’t sit well with me.

When some of the other artists asked to play their most popular songs, The Fifth Harmony couldn’t help but sing the two songs missing “Bo$$”. I remember watching Fifth Harmony perform on The X-Factor in 2012, and have followed their career steadily until this year. I hate to say it, but I think it’s better to have Cabello.
Logic (real name Robert Hall) had a great year. I first discovered his music when I was a performer at last year’s Spring Concert (I had a sinus infection and attended the Jesse McCartney opening and it was raining so I got about three songs into Logic’s set). Like I said before, I don’t really listen to rap music, but something about Logic’s music is really different and inspires me. Logic’s music is very positive and uplifting, as you can see in the song “1-800-273-8255,” the National Prevention Lifeline’s phone number. Following the song’s release in April, the phone reported receiving “the second most calls per day in its history” and Google searches for the phone number increased by more than 100 percent. His stage presence was infectious and it was inspiring to see him share this powerful message through his music. I was very impressed!
Let me tell you, I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy the Backstreet Boys. BSB I was probably 4 years old, AKA I wasn’t old enough to judge them compared to my 27 year old sister (who was with me at the game). I was looking through their catalog and realized I wanted to listen to “Larger Than Life” on Spotify yesterday and they opened it. It was really wonderful. I was impressed with their dance moves, vocal abilities and overall stage presence.

Although I wasn’t a fan when I was younger, I never saw them (coincidentally, because I was too young for the first time) so I underestimated their performance. They’ve been touring for over 20 years, so I don’t know why they did that. It was a really fun show and they ended up singing the most songs out of the crowd there. They finished with ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’ which was the perfect way to close their set.
The time has finally come! Taylor Swift was coming. His concert started at 10:20pm – to be honest, that’s when I’m ready to go to bed. I kept my composure as I watched Taylor’s mother, Andrea, appear on the floor counter – the first time I’d seen Taylor since meeting her in 2015. ! I haven’t seen Taylor perform at the Allstate Arena since 2011 on the Speak Now Tour, so this was a great opportunity for me and other longtime fans. “… Are you ready for this?” He opened with a speech. wearing see-through, black shorts and combat boots.
Adding more dance moves to her performance was fun, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it, but she seems like she’s having a lot of fun, so I agree. He sang “Empty Space” and then performed the Grammy-nominated 50 Shades of Gray rendition of “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” with Jack Antonoff. I think he plays this song as a campaign for victory. I chose to sing “Call It What You Want,” but I’m not complaining too much because I’ll be singing it twice next year.

The only REAL disappointments are: 1) He decided to play “Amazing” live instead of playing “Endgame”, the next track and song to his credit. Other radio shows with Ed Sheeran. Of course, Ed wasn’t lined up so he couldn’t really play, but I love EVERYTHING about this song. I just hate this song and have no problem accepting it.
2) I wish they had more than six songs! Since he was the headliner and didn’t sing more than the other artists (Khalid did six songs, Fifth Harmony did eight, the Backstreet Boys played for 50 minutes – I can’t remember how many), I was hoping to include a couple. addition. But he’s the boss and can do whatever he wants, so I guess I understand.
“What did you do to me?” I loved hearing the horse live and thought it was a really fun performance. Overall, I had a great time at the event and was blown away by many of the artists I was going to see perform! The line-up was really solid and I’m thinking about returning to the event next year.

It was also my last gig of 2017, so maybe it was.
