In the first three Youth Winter Olympics, the team event was held as a mixed-gender National Olympic Committee (NOC) competition, meaning that skaters from different NOCs were drawn into teams and competed together across national lines. However, there will be no NOC mixed events at Gangwon 2024, meaning that the team event will be a competition between teams representing NOCs.

In four individual events, athletes will compete in both the short program (or rhythm dance) and the free skate (or free dance). Due to the number of athletes competing, there is no cut-off and all athletes will skate in both segments, receiving scores based on technical elements (TES) and performance and performance (PCS).
Meanwhile, the team event will only feature a maximum of eight teams; not all four individual segments must be slid. Only the best three scores will count, meaning that teams with participants in only three of the four individual events qualify for the team event. No short programs (or rhythm dances) will be performed, only long programs will be performed. Points will be awarded on a sliding scale per segment, with eight points for the top team down to one point. The team with the most points from the best three segments will win the event.
Compositions And Composure
Athletes competing in figure skating at Gangwon 2024 must be born between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2009, making athletes between 14 and 18 years old.
There are a total of 72 quota places available for figure skating at Gangwon 2024, with 36 for men and 36 for women.
That is further divided into a maximum of 18 in each single event (up from 16 previously), a maximum of 6 pairs teams (down from 10, although only 8 will compete in Lausanne 2020), and a maximum of 12 ice dance teams (unchanged).

Here, medal winners will receive two quota places for each event per NOC for Gangwon 2024. NOCs ranked fourth and below who have not yet received a quota will be given one Gangwon 2024 quota, up to a maximum of 14 in singles, 4 in total pairs, and 9 total in ice dance

The American-Spanish pair had a professional event to celebrate – together, for a change – as Hubbell and Zachary Donohue finished on top for the United States in the team event rhythm dance at the Beijing Winter Games on Saturday.
“For me, she’s the cleanest; it’s a great performance,” Diaz said Friday after a practice session with dance partner Olivia Smart ahead of her own competition next week.
“I’m very proud of him,” he said. Diaz and Smart, who represent Spain, did not participate in the team event.

“It was a great way to start the Games not only with the best score of the season but … especially for me with my fiancé in the stands because we usually focus on our events,” Hubbell said Friday.
Partners since the 2014/15 season and rivals since they were teenagers, Hubbell and Diaz have been able to eat together – albeit through plexiglass – in the athletes’ village, the Spaniard said.
“It’s very natural, it’s never been a problem,” he said. “He’s always at the top and we’re fighting to get to the top so there’s no direct competition,” he said, standing next to Smart.
